I am passionate about helping small charities make a real difference through people. I’m on a mission to raise volunteer engagement and inspire people to bring about change in the voluntary sector.
Without the kind donations of time and money charities could not provide the resources needed for transformation.
Whether volunteers have 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week or more, their time is priceless. Every moment they give can make a real difference to your cause.
The rub is that without structure, processes and leadership you can have loads of volunteers but they are ineffective and a drain of time on the organisation. Volunteers are not free.
The flip side is that you may have only a few super engaged and enthusiastic volunteers but they are getting weary and feel undervalued. Potentially again being a time suck on your charity.
I can help you discover that by investing some time in volunteering development you can recruit people that are engaged, committed and productive. These volunteers will be able to help in meaningful and measurable ways.
My volunteer mantra is: If you get the right person in the right role, train them properly, support, trust, reward and encourage them, they will do a good job.
I am here to help as a freelance consultant. I offer flexible working to fit around your needs and your budget. So, you can commit to as much or as little as you like. I can work with you in your offices, work from my home office and I am happy to meet ‘virtually’ via skype or zoom.
I offer advice and solutions for small charities just like yours.
Working together we can motivate people to volunteer their time and talents. Ensure that you are able to support and recognise the contribution of your existing volunteers. Supporting you to develop a diverse range of roles that add value to the service you offer. Ensuring that your volunteering programme delivers measurable results for your organisation. Together we can create a maximum impact as you achieve your mission.
In 2002 I joined The RSPB, the largest nature conservation charity in the UK. My role has been varied throughout my time. It has included supporting staff and volunteers throughout the UK countries. I have been responsible for our network of volunteer-led self-funded community groups. I have led the UKHQ operations team in growing our residential volunteer scheme and internship programme. As the HQ Volunteering Operations Team Manager, I am inspired and proud of the contribution that the 12,000+ volunteers make to the cause.

However, whilst yes, my experience has come mainly from a big national charity, I have my feet firmly on the ground. I know the trials and tribulations that can be experienced if you are a small charity. Perhaps you have a low income, with few volunteers and maybe no paid employees to manage them. It's not easy to be Jack of all trades. I am a Trustee of my local small charity, they may be small but they are mighty. The HCCN (Hunts Community Cancer Network) supports the work of the nurses that are transforming cancer care in the community.
